Installing GUI for Raspbian Jessie Lite Distros

Hey friends, today in this post, we will see installing GUI for Raspbian Jessie Lite Distros. Basically, we will be installing Pixel GUI for your Raspberry Pi 2 or later. Earlier we have seen, how to configure WiFi in your raspberry pi lite OS Distributions. We will be using pixel GUI, the default GUI for the raspbian OS. This is the stripped version of the PIXEL desktop environment, which only contains the file manager and settings for appearance, audio, network, and Bluetooth. There is no trash support, no mounting of drives, or terminal included since the required components are not installed by default. No other applications are included either. The basic PIXEL desktop environment is the same as the one included in the regular Raspbian distribution, but without preinstalled applications.

Installing GUI for Raspbian Jessie Lite Distros
  1. sudo apt-get update
  2. sudo apt-get upgrade
  3. sudo apt-get install –no-install-recommends xserver-xorg
  4. sudo apt-get install –no-install-recommends xinit
  5. sudo apt-get install raspberrypi-ui-mods -y

The third step will take a lot of time, it will be downloading almost about 200mb. After downloading and installing, just do a reboot, sudo reboot. Now, you will be booted into the Pixel GUI. Have fun. Share this post with your friends, and help us grow!
